With this art prints series we wanted, above all, to celebrate the thousands of artisans who work across Morocco, crafting colored mosaic tiles to ornament walls, ceilings, floors, fountains and much more. It’s thanks to their passion and hard work that this fascinating craftsmanship stands the test of time and is still preserved. On a different note, we also partnered with a workshop at the heart of Rabat’s old medina to give our prints the handcrafted frames they deserve. Our parter artisans are renowned for their exceptional custom framing skills and the workshop is a meeting space for artists and amateurs alike.
Zellige is a mosaic tile work that flourished during the Hispano-Moresque era of the Maghreb region and Andalusia. It is an islamic art which consists of geometrically patterned clay tiles and is a symbol of the Moroccan architecture. It can be seen inside Andalusian castles and gardens, in major Moroccan monuments, inside hidden Riads in Fez or Marrakech old Medina and many other traditional spots.
